STATEWIDE NETWORK PLANNING PROJECT
Durational two-year position available in early Fall with the Connecticut
State Library in Hartford. Long-term planning for the development of an
automated statewide library and information services network will begin
soon and we are now seeking a professional with a strong background in
strategic planning, library automation and networking, and
telecommunications to assist in the management of this planning process.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general direction of the Head, Division of
Public and Cooperative Library Services, this new position will be
responsible for: identifying components of and managing planning for the
statewide network, including coordination with appropriate advisory
groups; developing system specifications including hardware, software, and
telecommunications requirements; preparing RFPs/RFIs, cost estimates, and
related budget documentation; identifying needed planning data, and
designing data collection tools and reporting mechanisms; maintaining
liaison with appropriate state agencies and library groups; and related
duties, including report writing and public presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in library, computer, or information science,
telecommunications, or related field _plus_ a minimum of three years in
library automation and library networking. Candidates must demonstrate:
knowledge of current and emerging networking technology and standards,
including telecommunications systems; knowledge of applications of current
and emerging technology as it contributes to meeting the information needs
of people; and knowledge of national library automation trends, including
networking and database developments and legislation. Also required:
ability to plan, design, and evaluate library networking systems; ability
to gather, analyze, and interpret data, and to write clear and
comprehensive reports; and ability to communicate clearly and
knowledgeably with various library community groups, state agency
representatives, technicians, and vendors.
Annual salary $45,370 with fringe benefit package. Evening work required.
