I believe this to be a somewhat popular, though falacious, rumor. It would
be nice to have verification of the statement.
So far as I can tell, most of the barriers to commercial traffic have been
lifted, so far as the Internet Society, itself, is concerned. Though the
social dimension of its user community, maintains a cohesive and vocal
antagonism to anything that sparks of commercialism. What this means is
that accomodations will have to be made by purveyors of commercial services
and information, to respect and respond to the desires of the community of
network users. Likely, as billing and charging functionality becomes
available (along with security and confidentiality protocols), the network
will have both exclusively commercial, and exclusively collegial resources
co-existing.
