Novices pay heed: we need the input of people new to the net
and to new features on the net. You are the only people that
can provide information from this perspective! Please write!
Any and all comments on your experiences are appreciated.
The importance of Project Gutenberg's continuing creation and
distribution of "A Child's Garden of the Internet" is growing
due to greater and greater pressures of new users on the nets
and old users trying out a plethora of new resources and also
the fact that more and more of the other sources of this kind
of information are being withdrawn from the unlimited copying
available due to the nature of the networks.
The result is that our Child's Garden Etext is rapidly headed
in a direction of being the only easy source of information a
novice might be able to turn to.
This is not an anticipated turn of events, as we had hoped to
synergize (heterodyne--for you hardware types) with all other
ventures in the same arena and thus provide a contually rich,
expanding, and comprehensive manual to the entire surfaces of
the varied network connections we are all still learning.
Therefore, Project Gutenberg implores you even more to create
and contribute little pieces of your network experiences, for
inclusion (in varied forms) in Child's Garden.
We intend to put out a new edition every weekend, and thus we
are going to need volunteers to assist, if we are to keep the
schedule of expanding to releasing a book a week into Project
Gutenberg next year, and two books a week the year after that
and four. . . .
There is no money in it for you. . .but lots of fame and more
glory than you can imagine.
We are sad to say that it looks as if we will not be doing an
etext of a second edition of Zen and the Art of the Internet,
as it appears to be one of the sources mentioned above, going
from etext to paper, instead of the other way around.
A Child's Garden of the Internet appears to be "Going Gold if
not Going Platinum" even before it has been officially put in
circulation. We have received notes from around the world in
the few months since its inception, and we have not even sent
out one copy intentionally (our editors must be leaking them)
We hope to be thanking you soon for your contributions,
(There may be errors in this note, but fewer in the books, as
this note, and most others, are written at a live terminal(no
spellchecker, etc.) Send your reply now! No spellcheckers!!

re: the first flurry of responses (don't expect much for a month)
Right now I don't want to put ANY limitations on A Child's Garden of the
Internet. Yes. . .we will get duplication for the first month that way,
but that is what we need. . .multiple perspectives. . .so we don't leave
out details that gurus and normal folk tend to overlook. Just keep it a
simple, childlike, Ten Minute Tutorial. Feel free to try it out on your
friends, both before your submit it or after or both. Manuals by people
who know too much have problems. . .we need manuals that anyone can read
and use. These will be updated once a week starting Fall semester. You
are encouraged to just write what you would like to have had as you were
starting out. Feel free to include details for your local computer, and
we will edit those parts to Ten Minute Tutorials on those specific types
of computers.
Right now. . .write anything. . .don't restrict yourselves.
