We have one Macintosh CD-ROM station near our Reference desk with a nice
laser printer attached. It was a gift from the publisher of the CD-ROM.
We suspect that, especially when the Reference desk is unstaffed, people
are coming along and using that Mac for word processing (running
application from floppy) and printing out their documents on the laser
printer.
We will soon be locating additional CD-ROM stations in the same area,
although these will not have laser printers. I would like to find some
means for preventing people from using these microcomputers for anything
other than the CD-ROM.
I want to continue to provide access to the floppy
can download their search results if they wish. Does anyone know of a
software solution to this problem. Is there a program out there that
allows you to restrict what software can be run from a certain machine?
What other approaches have you taken to this problem?
