The Arts & Sciences Library at Tufts University will convert from
many standalone CD workstations to a CD network (Logicraft 28 disc
drives with 24 simultaneous users on the University's network)
later this summer. We will network SilverPlatter's ERIC, PsycLIT,
MathSci; Wilson's MLA Bibliography; Marcive's GPO Monthly Catalog;
and IAC's General Periodicals Index-Academic and we will retain one
standalone workstation for lesser used CD's.
As part of our preparation we are drafting a general collection
development policy for CD's as well as a policy on what will go on
the network. Although it will be easy to divide what will go on
the network from day one, we think it will become increasingly
important to have a policy indicating which factors are considered
before a CD is put on the network. Factors might include:
actual/anticipated usage for disc or database, ease of use,
availability and cost of network license, etc.
