REDEFINING BULLETIN BOARDS: the Emergence of the C.W.I.S.
Sunday June 28th, 1992
2:00 - 4:00
Room 131, Moscone Convention Center
***********************************************************
The Electronic Mail/Electronic Bulletin Boards Interest Group and
the Distributed Systems and Networks Interest Group are co-
sponsoring a program for San Francisco entitled "Redefining
Bulletin Boards". A panel of five speakers will look at current
electronic information systems which have evolved from the early
"bulletin boards" concept into a far more sophisticated,
information resource. Today's systems go beyond the analog
bulletin board metaphor to encompass a variety of information
delivery platforms which enhance and extend the concept.
Systems which will be highlighted in this two hour program range
from a statewide system aimed at K through 12 teachers, medium
and large university campus-wide information systems and a
statewide system for the community. The speakers will share their
extensive experience with these systems. Areas to be covered
include initial choice of system, system development, information
content, promotion of the system to diverse user communities, and
political factors associated with a networked resource.
Speakers on the panel include:
Andy Boze, Notre Dame University;
Susan Jurist, University of California, San Diego;
Frank Lowney, Georgia College;
Ray Metz, Case Western Reserve University; and
Brian Nielsen, Northwestern University.
