The International

LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY FAIR 1992

at the

UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE

formerly known as Hatfield Polytechnic

on the

9 - 10 September 1992

Are you planning to visit Europe this Summer? Why not plan to
combine business with pleasure?

One of the largest exhibitions of library systems and database
products to be held in Europe will take place at the University
of Hertfordshire on the outskirts of London this September. The
exhibition is combined witha crowded programme of conferences
and seminars organised at our invitation by the Library
Association and the main p
fessional bodies in the UK.

You can stay onsite in the Students' Halls of Residence (plain
but cheap!), visit the exhibition, attend one or more of the
conferences or seminars, join us for an Elizabethan Banquet in
the "Old Palace" and stay on afterwards to go sightseing in St.
Albans and shopping in London.

THE EXHIBITION

With more than one hundred exhibitors this year's INTERNATIONAL
LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY FAIR will be one of the largest exhibitions
of library systems and database products to be held in Europe.
It will be opened by Helen Sharman, Britain's first space woman
- these days libraries and spacecraft are equally dependent on
computers.

CONFERENCES & SEMINARS

The key to the success of the Fair is the combination of a major
exhibition with a crowded two day programme of thirty
conferences, seminars and meetings organised, at our invitation,
by the the main professional bodies in the United Kingdom. There
is something of interest to everybody at this year's Fair.

For further details send for a copy of our brochure (see below
for contact details) or send us a message by E-Mail (to:
LIBQWAF@UK.AC.HATFIELD.VMS3) and we can send you by return a
data file containing brief details of all the meetings.

THE ELIZABE
AN BANQUET IN THE "OLD PALACE"

Why not stay overnight in the Halls of Residence or at a local
hotel (special rates for delegates) and give yourself more time
to visit the exhibition or take in another event? You could also
join us for an "evening of feasting and merrymaking" at an
Elizabethan banquet in the Old Palace. Good Queen Bess and her
Court are expecting a hundred guests on Wednesday evening in the
splendid Tudor banqueting hall of her Old Palace.

TRANSPORT

Hatfield is twenty miles North of London. The University of
Hertfordshire is situated on the AI (M) on the South side of
Hatfield three miles north of the junction with London's orbital
motorway, the M25. Hatfield is half an hour by train from
central London (Kings Cross station) and we provide a free bus
service from Hatfield Station to the exhibition.

Hatfield is approximately half an hour by car from London's
Heathrow airport (coach and taxi services available) via the M25
and there is a direct rail connection from London's second major
airport (Gatwick) to St. Albans, just 5 miles from Hatfield.

WHERE TO STAY

We have negotiated concessionary rates for visitors at local
hotels (a list with prices can be supplied) but visitors working
to a tight budget may prefer to stay in the students' Halls of
Residence (bed and breakfast for 18 pounds).

AND AFTERWARDS?

Hatfield is one of five new towns built after the war in the
largely rural county of Hertfordshire to absorb the expanding
population of greater London. Old Hatfield is best known as the
childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I who grew up in the Old
Palace at Hatfield House, a popular attraction for overseas
visitors.

The nearby city of St Albans, five miles from Hatfield, dates
back to Roman times. The ruins of the Roman city lie beneath
Verulamium Park and the attractive medieval city which succeeded
it is clustered about the massive Norman Abbey, now a cathedral,
which stands on the site of the martyrdom of St Alban, a Roman
soldier who became Britain's first Christian martyr. St Albans
is best known today for its restaurants, picturesque pubs and
street market.

Visitors may care to stay on after the Fair to get to know the
area and visit London's theatres and shops.
