I had asked for clarification on the status of the software program
PAPYRUS, and boy did I get it, in more than one way of speaking!
I am forwarding the following message from the publishers of
PAPYRUS, which is evidently *not* being sold, or any other
related activity.
NOTE 1: This was not the only message I received about this, simply
the most strongly worded, a reaction I did not anticipate.
NOTE 2: Due to the nature of the following message I feel obliged
to tell a boring story about the origin of my question. About a
year ago a few other librarians and I were talking about some of the
turnover which had been taking place regarding several bibliographic
management software packages. There had been a considerable amount
of upheaval in the market and none of us were quite sure which
ones were still functioning independently and which had been
purchased in that series of buyouts and mergers. Papyrus was one
of the titles about which we were unsure of its current status.
That was the last I heard until someone on the net asked about
its current status. I assure you all that my response was intended
solely to solicit information and *not* to open a legal can of
worms. My feeling is still that it is appropriate in this type
of information exchange environment to ask for clarifications,
information, updates, responses or experiences others have
had with a vendor or their product. I perceive my response in
this light, and certainly not as an act of industrial espionage.

I have just received a copy of your posting to PACS-L regarding PAPYRUS, from a

The rumors you have reported are completely false. I would appreciate your not
