Iain Noble writes, Thu, 04 Jun 92 15:13:47 GMT:
Do I have to download the compressed version of postscript files using
binary instead of the usual text format?
Definitely, YES!!!
Or is there some other cause (besides incompetence) for my problems?
Might be; e.g. system 6.0.7 is known to be unstable, SendPS might be corrupted
or you might just suffer from the inherent malevolence of machines against
humans /:-) [no grin, I am dead serious].

In answer to Iain Noble's queston about .Z files, yes, they should be
downloaded/ftp'ed as binary files. Compressed files are almost always
in binary format.

".Z" files are files compressed using what I believe is called the UNIX
Compress utility. They have to be FTP'd (and downloaded) in binary.

On Unix systems files with .Z extensions are compressed files. They should
be ftp'ed in binary mode so none of the 'translations' that occur in ascii
mode take place.
