We're doing the analysis to add the INSPEC file to the University
of California's MELVYL system. Created in England, this file
has a mixture of British and American spellings, with the official
subject headings being purely British. We feel that the spelling
issue could be a real trap for the general user, so we'd like to
provide a "translation" from British to American within the indexes.
Has anyone done this before us? I can imagine either a table of
equivalent terms or even an algorithm. Anything you can share
 would be welcome.
