That was the message of assurance 3M had for the attendees of the recent International Conference and Exposition on Multimedia and CD-ROM. In an attempt to quell industry fears that compact disks are deteriorating faster than expected, 3M has put its disks thropugh rigorous environmental stress testing like the kind auto manufacturers often use to test th elife expectancies of tires and other automotive parts. The company announced its test results at the Microsoft-sponsored conference in San Francisco, March 9-11. According to 3M, the life [cont. on p. 26] expectancy of a CD-ROM disk under normal circumstances is 100 years or more. And to show its confidence at the conference in this claim, 3M also announced at the conference that it will warranty its disks for 25 years. Other CD-ROM related news at the conference included announcements by both Pioneer and Sony that the are now offering double-speed drives....[etc. etc.] [article started on p. 1].
