BUSINESS LIBRARIAN

 

Appointment Rank:           Assistant Professor

Salary:                                   $44,000, minimum

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) Libraries seeks a creative,
service-oriented librarian to be the subject specialist in business. The
Business Librarian actively engages faculty, students, and staff to build
strong working relationships with the nationally ranked College of Business
Administration and serves as liaison in these key areas: research
assistance, instruction, and collection management. As a member of the
Research Services Department in the John C. Hodges Library, the Business
Librarian participates in the planning, implementation, and assessment of
the Department's services and contributes to the work of the Department as
both a subject specialist and as a generalist in a large centralized
library. The librarian interacts with campus groups, providing leadership
related to scholarly communication, the use of emerging technologies,
assessment, and diversity. The Business Librarian participates in
fundraising activities, public relations, and outreach to the local
community for the subject area. Research and publication are expectations
for this tenure-track position. The successful candidate will embrace change
as an exciting challenge in the pursuit of excellent library service.

 

The UT Knoxville campus seeks candidates who have the ability to contribute
in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the
University.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

1.      Develop and deliver library instruction and research support
services for the College of Business Administration

2.      Provide specialized consultation services for students, faculty,
administrators, and general public

3.      Deliver general reference services, online and in-person

4.      Lead collection development activities for general business,
accounting and information management, economics, finance, management,
marketing and logistics, and business statistics

5.      Liaison to the following Institutes and Centers including: Global
Business  Institute, Center for Business and Economic Research, Institute
for Statistical Engineering, Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and
Innovation, Center for Executive Education, Construction Industry Research
and Policy Center, Corporate Governance Center, and Masters Investment
Learning Center

 

Required Qualifications:

ALA accredited master's degree. Experience or coursework in reference
services and a demonstrated interest in instruction.  Knowledge of business
information resources, including financial and business databases and an
understanding of scholarly communication and publishing trends in an
academic setting.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills paired
with a strong service orientation. Demonstrated understanding of technology
applications in higher education and experience with basic web design and
related web technologies.  Commitment to research and creative achievement
in a tenure track faculty position.  Evidence of the ability to work
collegially in a team environment accompanied by initiative, self-direction,
and commitment to creativity and innovation.

 

Preferred Qualifications:   

Experience as a business librarian.  Teaching experience and evidence of
success in the design and use of instructional materials.  Collection
development experience.

Benefits: 

 

Appointment at rank of Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of $44,000.
Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library
faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.
Excellent benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state retirement
plan or TIAA/CREF with nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by
the University; optional group health and life insurance plans. Tuition
remission is available for all university employees; partial undergraduate
tuition remission is available to dependent children and spouses of UT
employees.
