I am gathering some information for a conference presentation this summer
on the topic "Automation in Hard Times" and would greatly appreciate your
input.  Please answer the few questions attached and send your response
directly to me rather than to this group.  I am posting this request to
PACS-L, TEKNOIDS, and INNOPAC and apologize for any duplicates you may

                  AUTOMATION IN HARD TIMES SURVEY

1.  My library is presently:
    __  Fully automated  (OPAC, Circ, Acq, Ser)
    __  Partially automated  (some of the above)
    __  Fully manual  (none of the above)


2.  The library's budget for automation this year has:
    --  Increased
    __  Remained the same
    __  Decreased


3.  Given our budget situation:
    __  We upgrade and expand our system as needed
    __  We maintain what we already have but have not added more
           modules or features that we would like to have
    __  We cut back on systems hardware
    __  We cut back on systems software (modules, features)
    __  We cut back on systems maintenance
    __  We selected a system with fewer features than what we really
           wanted
