                          JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Systems Librarian in the Production Services Division, Office for Systems
Planning and Research, Harvard University Library.

The Production Services Division of the Office for Systems Planning and
Research is responsible for providing support for automated library systems
in Harvard University Libraries. The Division will begin support of a
major retrospective conversion project in 1993. This opening is for a new
position in the technical support group, which provides ongoing analysis
and programming in support of the Library's locally-developed integrated
system, HOLLIS. Duties may include: programming for online and batch
applications, preparing technical and user documentation, providing
operational support for online and batch processes as needed, generating
library management reports using the HOLLIS reporting system, troubleshooting
system problems.

N.B. Position is initially funded for 2 years, with possibility of extension.

Required: MLS or equivalent experience. Demonstrated aptitude for computer
programming. Ability to think analytically is a must. Strong verbal and
written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to describe
complex functions and processes coherently to both technical and non-technical
personnel. Ability to learn technical topics quickly. Demonstrated personal
initiative. Desirable: Experience in computer systems and programming, ideally
in an IBM mainframe environment; PL/I, C and/or IBM 360 assembly language
programming; familiarity with MARC bibliographic data; experience with
NOTIS; CMS and/or TSO timesharing; MVS JCL; familiarity with academic or
research libraries.

Salary: $27,400 - $43,800 depending on experience and qualifications.
