----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Several weeks ago I posted some information on a new CD based
subscription service called ADONIS. A couple of people responded
with comments, and someone forwarded one of those comments along
with my original posting to Paul Ashton, the U.S. rep. for ADONIS.
The jist of the comment was that there was a lengthy (6 months)
publication delay, the printing quality was poor, and that the
system ran only with "expensive" printers.
Mr. Ashton contacted me and requested that I post a rebuttal
to that comment. He maintains that the publication lag is about 3
weeks and that the system runs only with Hewlett-Packard LaserJets
II and III (not the IIP or IIIP). You decide if those are
"expensive". I can state that the prints that I saw were very nice
grayscale. If the original were in color, you would lose something
in the conversion to black and white, but otherwise, the
illustrations came out very well.
Again let me reiterate that I am not endorsing or recommending
ADONIS. We do not have it nor do we anticipate getting it in the
immediate future. Any questions should be addressed to Paul Ashton
at ADONIS, 3 Cambridge Center, Suite 208, Cambridge, MA 02142.
