GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS/PUBLIC SERVICE LIBRARIAN
ANTICIPATED TENURE-TRACK POSITION
Western Connecticut State University is seeking qualified applicants
for the position of Government Documents/Public Service Librarian.
Responsibilities will include planning and coordinating of collections
and services of a selective Federal Depository Library, general
reference service, faculty liaison program, bibliographic instruction.
REQUIRED: An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; minimum of
two years recent experience working in a government documents
collection and facility with standard U.S. Government document
reference sources; relevant general reference experience; good
organizational and interpersonal skills and a record of working well
with others.
PREFERRED; An additional advanced academic degree or substantial
graduate study; working knowledge of current library technology and
automation; experience in a VAX environment; previous experience
teaching library and bibliographic instruction classes; previous
supervisory experience; evidence of participation in professional
activities.

POSITION AVAILABLE
CATALOGER: Creates original catalog records for monographs in
all formats and languages with primary responsibility for German
language material. Responsibilities include: upgrading OCLC or
RLIN member contributed copy lacking a usable call number and/or
appropriate access points; contributes to local and NACO
authority control procedures supporting original cataloging
activities; assists in special projects related to the revision
of the NOTIS bibliographic database; and assists in establishing
cataloging policy and practice.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS and proficiency in German are
required. One year of post-MLS cataloging experience using the
LC Classification scheme, AACR2 as interpreted by the Library of
Congress and the MARC format is preferred. Also preferred is
experience with a local public access catalog.
RANK/SALARY: Tenure-track position with faculty status at the
rank of Assistant Librarian; $25,000 or higher, competitive and
commensurate with qualifications.
