Subject: Re: RLG--News or Advertising

Re comments on costs of publicity brochures. Does this use of
e-mail by RLIN indicate their premier position in use of hi-tech,
or possible financial problems & recognition of financial
realities? I personally prefer to receive promotional material
by e-mail, rather than by junk mail; it's easier to dispose of
the results if unwanted. Overall, I find RLIN's use of the wires
to tout their projects helpful.
Probably the first use of serious graphic interfaces will be to
prepare the e-equivalent of multi-part 4-color brochures,
including the letter from company president w/personal offer.
Shudder...

Which prompts this snappy rejoinder from JBYRNE@AISH.llnl.gov:

Now I say:

I agree with A.J. Wright; your valuable information is nothing more
than my trash in many cases. But let ME decide the value. As to the
barb that JBYRNE has felt obligated to fling, I would rather get my
junk mail in electronic format, than continue the deforestation
required to deliver it in DEAD-TREE format. Too bad JBYRNE hasn't
realized the consequences of delivering junk mail in
less-environmentally sound methods, or can we be assured that it is all
properly recycled.
