We've become interested in the second part of Doug Taylor's question, how
to keept cd-rom disks from being stolen now that cd-rom drives are
becoming more plentiful. Most of our cd-roms are on a network server in a
back room, and he may be able to manage the Shareware Library by putting
it on a network. However we've started to acquire some cd-roms whose
network licence charges are too expensive, so we will once again
be adding a couple of drive to workstations.
One solution I've discovered is a cd-player lock that attaches to the
top or bottom of the drive, or of the PC, and covers the drive with
a bar. The device costs $27, and comes in 3 sizes (5.5", 2.5" and 1.5")
to match different size internal and external cd-rom drives. They are
available from BCR, 4500 Cherry Creek Blvd., Suite 206, Denver CO 80222;
fax (303)691-0112. The name of the device is Lasersafe. In addition
to the $27 cost, there is a $5 shipping charge for each shipment.

Doug,
Be aware that PC-SIG disks 1-2804 are available on simtel20 sites.
Perhaps allowing terminal access to that could solve your problems.
