Subject: Networked access to databases
Those who have been following the PACS-L discussion re: licensing networked
access to databases might be interested in taking a look at an article
on pp.A23-A24 of the May 6 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education.
I think the title of the article is very misleading: "Critics of
Copyright Law Seek New Ways to Prevent Unauthorized Use of Computerized
Information". The article actually deals with librarians' concerns that
current licensing arrangements are TOO RESTRICTIVE in terms of access
to databases. The title would lead the reader to believe that it's about
new ways (contractual or otherwise) to RESTRICT access to databases.
But it's still a good general overview of the issue.
