GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the Public Services Department which includes
reference, circulation, interlibrary loan, reserve/media,
stacks, and the copy center with a staff of 6 faculty
librarians, 19 staff, and 20 to 30 student assistants.
Contributes to library and departmental planning, proposes
new programs and services, and projects and monitors
departmental budgets. Manages the selection, training,
supervision, and development of departmental personnel.
Coordinates and evaluates collection development
activities of the department. Participates as a member of
the library management team and fulfills requirements of
faculty membership including contributions to
librarianship, service, and scholarship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ALA accredited M.L.S. Significant supervisory experi-
ence in one or more of the functions of public services is
essential. Strong management, analytical, and public
service skills. Superior planning, problemsolving,
interpersonal communication, and writing abilities,
combined with flexibil-ity, initiative, and stamina.
Minimum of 4 years experience in public services.
Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces integrated library
system software and microcomputer applications highly
desirable.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
Salary is $40,000+ for a 12-month contract. The posi-
tion is tenure track with a supportive environment for
scholarship and service. Benefits include 24 days annual
leave, 12 paid holidays, TIAA/CREF, and a flexible benefit
package.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is an expanding
metropolitan university with over 16,000 students, A
modern campus is situated in a residential area surrounded
by parkland. The library has a staff of 60 and houses
more than 1.5 million items. A member of the 4-campus
University of Nebraska Council of Libraries, the library
has an Innovative Interfaces OPAC and a CD-ROM LAN. A
major library expansion is now being planned. Omaha
offers a growing economy and a community that supports an
array of vibrant arts, music, and theater organizations.
