Genevieve Engel raises a good question about advertising when
NREN is open to commercial interests. Unquestionably there will
be advertising: People with something to sell will want to reach
people who might want to buy. (And we all know that the job
listings so welcome by many are really advertising).

As information sources, the lists and the network itself will
be available for folks looking for information, too. Some of
the information people might want could be found in advertise-
ments.

What would make sense in terms of allowing people to publish
information and allowing others to receive it when the impetus
is somewhat less altruistic and more specifically commercial
than it is today?

Well, I'm as sorry as I can be, but such blurbs as the "RLG News" etc. are not
considered junk mail by all of us out here. Perhaps the objectors to this sort
of thing can suggest a suitable alternative for this type of information for
those of us with politically incorrect viewpoints.
