LIBRARY HEAD OF PUBLIC SERVICES
Lydia M. Olson Library at Northern Michigan University seeks applicants
for the
Head of Public Services. We seek a versatile, dynamic person to lead an
integrated, progressive program of library services that is responsive
to the
needs of the University community. NMU is a high-tech campus and the
first
public university in Michigan to embark on a "laptop campus" initiative.
This librarian provides leadership to the Public Services units;
oversees
operational functions; supervises staff; coordinates assessment of
services,
processes, and user needs; coordinates public service activities with
other
units; promotes library programs and services; and engages in
librarianship
activities including selection, teaching, and reference.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree; minimum 2 years
progressively
responsible library experience, preferably in an academic library;
demonstrated
ability to coordinate one or more library service (e.g., circulation,
reference,
library instruction); experience with assessment (measuring and
evaluating service,
assessing user needs); reference and classroom instruction experience;
supervisory
experience; demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty,
students, and
colleagues; effective oral and written communication skills. A second
master's or
higher degree is desirable.
This is a full-time, twelve-month tenure track faculty appointment at
the rank of
Assistant Professor or higher. Salary and benefits are competitive.
