As I feared, it appears that the media who reported so very
ebulliently about Google's eBook Project December 14th were
extremely quiet about Yahoo's entry into the eLibrary ring.
The American television media whom I quoted so much on last
December's multi-million dollar Google publicity blitz were
totally silent today, as I intently monitored CBS, NBC, ABC
and PBS news programs this evening. It was only from World
Service of the BBC that I heard even the slightest mention,
but this was relegated away from the main news segments via
Katty Kay and Mike Embley and only covered in short mention
in Tanya Beckett's business coverage.
This is quite sad in its own way, as Brewster Kahle is very
certainly the greatest public relations wizard I have known
in my entire lifetime, and if he couldn't convince them the
story is worth covering, I have serious concerns Google has
so severely tainted these waters that no one will ever want
to cover any eBook/eLibrary stories with the same vigor any
time in the near future, if at all.
Even more sadly to say, ALL of the various commercial eBook
ventures seem to have tainted these waters beyond abilities
of people as myself to ever be able to announce the *actual
completion* of eBook projects, as Google has created such a
deafening silence with their vaporware announcement.
It simply boggles the mind of someone who has dreamed of an
eLibrary for nearly 35 years that actually HAVING a ~50,000
title eLibrary already available via Project Gutenberg will
not get the slightest coverage in the major media.
So, for now, you can simply follow the URLs in my signature
block below to find a million dollars worth of eBooks.
Thanks!!!
