DEPUTY CHIEF LIBRARIAN
Associate Professor
Reporting to the Chief Librarian, responsible for day-to-day
operations, personnel services, supervision of branch libraries,
management of the Library's budget for operations and personnel,
facilities management, and the development of policies for all
library operations and services. Serves as a senior level manager and
represents the Libraries to University and College offices and other
groups as appropriate. Leads colleagues and staff in achieving
library goals and objectives. Acts as Chief Librarian in the absence
of the Chief Librarian. May participate in reference, instruction,
collection development and liaison activities. Qualifications:
Associate Professor: M.L.S., or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited
library school, plus an additional Master's degree or Doctorate
required; demonstrated record of increasingly responsible library
administrative experience, preferably in academic libraries;
significant experience in supervising personnel and budget
management. Highly desirable: Demonstrated leadership in a changing
environment; familiarity with trends and issues in higher education;
fundraising and grant writing experience; excellent communication and
interpersonal skills; experience in other areas of public services;
ability to work in a collaborative environment with a strong
commitment to public service; record of accomplishment suitable for
appointment as Associate Professor; ability to meet tenure and
promotion requirements.
Salary: Associate Professor: $45,651-$73,028, commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Excellent fringe benefits. 35-hour,
5-day work week, may include some evening and/or weekend hours.
Hunter College, the second oldest college in The City University of
New York, is a coeducational, fully accredited college, with a large
and diverse faculty in the liberal arts and sciences and in several
professional schools. Hunter's total enrollment is approximately
20,000 students. Of these, about 8,000 are full-time undergraduate,
an additional 8,000 are part-time students, and over 4,000 are
graduate students studying in arts and sciences, teacher education
and professional programs at the Schools of Arts and Sciences,
Education, Social Work, and Health Professions.
With a professional staff of 23 librarians, Hunter College Library
contains over 750,000 volumes, 2,300 current periodical titles,
10,000 electronic journals, and a nonprint collection of discs,
tapes, scores, CD-ROMs, microforms, art slides and digitized slides.
The library resources of Hunter College are available through CUNY+,
an automated library system, which provides access to all CUNY
library collections.
