We are now recruiting for the following position at the Walker 
Library.

User Services Librarian – Reference/Instruction/Science Liaison 
(#641030)
Middle Tennessee State University
Murfreesboro, Tennessee 

Duties and Responsibilities:  Under general direction of the 
Coordinator for User Services and the Team Leader for Reference 
and Instructional Services, select resources and provide reference
services designed to meet the specialized information needs of
students and faculty in the natural sciences, computer sciences, 
and mathematics.

Teach both general and science related library research classes to
undergraduate and graduate students using two electronic 
classrooms.

Assume leadership role in the development of instructional web 
pages, tutorials, and guides relating to the natural sciences, 
computer science, and mathematics.

Build strategic partnerships with faculty in the College of Basic and
Applied Sciences.

Design and conduct training classes on science related databases 
for the  library staff.

Provide general and specialized reference service in person, via
email, and through reference chat, including one Sunday per month 
plus
some evening hours.

Participate as a generalist and science information specialist in
other Reference and Instructional Services programs and projects, 
such as Research Coach (individual reference appointments) and 
Reference by
Appointment.

Serve as a member of the Reference and Instructional Services 
Team.

Select resources in the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, 
physics), computer sciences, and mathematics for the general and
reference collections.

Qualifications: ALA accredited Masters degree by time of hire. 
Subject background in the natural sciences, computer science, or
mathematics demonstrated through academic coursework or 
science related library or other work experience.  Ability to work 
creatively and effectively in a team environment to enhance library 
programs and services, to work well with students, faculty, and staff, 
to quickly learn new technologies and skills, and to meet promotion 
and tenure requirements which require scholarly activity and 
service.  Ability to create web pages, online tutorials, and guides 
using relevant applications (e.g. HTML, Dreamweaver, FrontPage, 
Word).  Knowledge of current trends in information literacy and the 
sciences. Must also possess a broad knowledge of print and 
electronic resources relating to the sciences, a strong commitment 
to quality user services, and excellent communication and 
organizational skills.

Salary and Benefits:	Highly competitive salary, academic rank 
commensurate with qualifications.  Generous benefits include full-
paid State or TIAA/CREF retirement, 24 days annual leave, 12 days 
sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.   12 month tenure-track 
appointment with faculty rank.
