Four Honored with ILCSO Awards

Four individuals recently garnered awards from the Illinois Library
Computer Systems Organization (ILCSO -
http://office.ilcso.illinois.edu):

Jay Starratt, Dean of Library and Information Services and Associate
Vice Chancellor for Information Technology, Southern Illinois University
at Edwardsville, was presented with the ILCSO Distinguished Contributor
Award. This award is presented in recognition of sustained contributions
to the organization. Mr. Starratt is a past president of ILCSO, is a
long standing member of ILCSO's governing board, has served as chair of
the ILCSO Policy Council, and has chaired a number of important ILCSO
committees, including the ILCSO System Assessment Task Force which
selected the Endeavor Voyager system as ILCSO's integrated library
system. Mr. Starratt is the eighth recipient of the Distinguished
Contributor award since its inception in 1995.

Jean Wilkins, recently retired director of the Illinois State Library,
received the ILCSO Special Citation Award in recognition of her more
than two decades of outstanding service and support for the ILCSO
consortium and all Illinois libraries. Ms. Wilkins has served at the
State Library in various capacities since 1980 and held the position of
Director for the past six years. Ms. Wilkins has served on the ILCSO
Board of Directors and numerous other ILCSO committees.

Diane Dates Casey, Dean of Library Services and Academic Computing at
Governors State University, and Bernie Sloan, Senior Library Information
Systems Consultant with the University of Illinois Office for Planning
and Budgeting, became the first two recipients of the ILCSO
Distinguished Publication Award. This award was established by the ILCSO
Board of Directors in 2003 to (1) recognize authors of superior articles
which pertain to ILCSO consortium practices, services, and resources and
(2) to encourage the submission of such works to the library literature,
and (3) to promote the availability of such works to the library
community. The award is given every three years.

The awards were given for the following publications:

Dates Casey, Diane. The Impact of Consortial Guidelines on the
Cataloging of Internet Resources. Journal of Internet Cataloging, 6(1).
2003.

Sloan, Bernie. Slicing the Membership Pie. The Bottom Line: Managing
Library Finances, 13(1). February 2000.
