LIBRARIAN I (CATALOGER) - P31Aug - 007197 - Southern Methodist University, Central University Libraries, Center for Information Processing - (Salary: low 30's) This position is responsible for original and copy cataloging and classification of bibliographic materials for Central University Libraries. The Libraries use OCLC/AMIGOS for cataloging and the Endeavor Voyager library management system. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: cataloging in a variety of formats and languages; establishing and maintaining authority files; contributing to the development of divisional policies and procedures; and working with library staff to verify the accuracy of bibliographic, holdings and authority records in the online catalog.

Required Qualifications: M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited library school with courses in cataloging. Dec. 04 graduates will also be considered. Experience with MARC formats, AACR2rev, OCLC cataloging procedures, Library of Congress rule interpretations, LCSH, and Library of Congress classification schedules. Cataloging proficiency in one or more modern foreign languages. Broad based knowledge to catalog in a variety of subject areas. Experience with automated library systems. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and meet appropriate deadlines and production goals; work in a team environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must have the ability to work at a computer station for extended periods.
Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in cataloging. Cataloging proficiency in one or more modern European languages. Demonstrated communication, organizational, training, and problem solving skills with the ability to coordinate projects and work activities. Candidates must also possess the ability to make decisions and take the initiative in setting policies, goals, and priorities.
