                Announcement of Library Vacancy

                Title:  Business Reference Librarian, Librarian I (LIB 278)

                Responsibilities:  Reporting to the Head of the Gast Business Library, this librarian is a member of the team that plans and delivers the full range of reference services and electronic information to the patrons of the Business Library branch.  These include assistance with print and electronic resources, library instruction, and creation of subject-oriented research guides and web pages.  The librarian will participate in projects such as the development of on-line reference service, distance education course support, services relating to numeric data files, and web page management.  Collection management responsibilities will also be assigned in appropriate subject areas.  The position will include scheduled night and weekend hours.  This Librarian participates in professional development activities and scholarly activities, and serves on library and university committees as elected or assigned; other appropriate duties as assigned. 

                Qualifications:  Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program; excellent interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills; strong commitment to public service; course work or background with electronic resources, including Internet resources; ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment; ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students; ability to work well independently and in a team situation; preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a librarian appointment;   commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development.  Desired: previous reference and instructional experience; knowledge of business resources and/ or course work in business; proficiency with microcomputer hardware and software, including statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS).

                Campus and Libraries:  Michigan State University Libraries serve more than 4,500 faculty, 34,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres.  The Main Library and 9 branch libraries have combined holdings of over 4.5 million volumes.  The Eli Broad College of Business, ranked among the top business schools nationwide, has 135 full-time faculty, with undergraduate enrollment of approximately 5,500 and over 700 graduate students.  East Lansing is a community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the state capital.

                COMPENSATION: $41,000 minimum. MSU provides generous fringe benefits.
