Occasionally I go back and revisit a question I've asked in the past, to try
to see what may have happened since I first posed the question...

About twelve years ago I posted a note to several discussion groups asking
about the potential for librarians to perform at least part of their jobs
via telecommuting.

At the time there seemed to be some potential for telework/telecommuting in
the library profession. In the last paragraph of my 1992 posting I asked:

"Do people see much of a future for telework in the library workplace,
especially as we become more involved with virtual libraries?"

A lot has happened since 1992, including a proliferation of digital/virtual
library products/projects, the development of virtual reference services,
and (last but most certainly not least) greatly expanded networked library
offerings made possible by the advent of the World Wide Web.

The potential for telework/telecommuting has expanded greatly in the past
dozen years or so. I'm interested to know if telework/telecommuting
opportunities have expanded to meet the potential?
