Networked Information Services Librarian/Coordinator of
Library Services for Distance Education
Jackson Library, The University of North Carolina
at Greensboro
Jackson Library at The University of North Carolina at
Greensboro is seeking an enthusiastic individual to
provide creative and innovative leadership for its
networked information and distance education programs
and initiatives. Reporting to the Assistant Director for
Information Technologies and Electronic Resources,
this position will provide core technical, public-service,
and program support for the Library's growing
array of electronic information.
Responsibilities: As a member of the Electronic Resources
and Information Technology Department, coordinates
the Library's distance education initiatives and has
primary responsibility for electronic books, document
delivery, and remote database access. The individual hired
will also participate actively as a part of
a nine-person team that supports a broad range of
electronic products, hardware, and services throughout
the Library.
Qualifications Required: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to
communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and
strong commitment to public services. Ability to
work collaboratively in a team environment and to manage
multiple projects and priorities effectively.
Experience with electronic resources, information systems,
and WWW page development and design.
Qualifications Preferred: Two or more years relevant
experience, including public and electronic services
experience; knowledge of major electronic information
delivery formats and relational database management systems
concepts; broad experience with hardware and software;
experience with several of the following
- Perl, CGI, ASP, SQL, Access, web server administration,
Windows server administration, Windows hardware,
SGML, XML, electronic book formats and readers.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications
and experience, not less than $45,000.
Environment: Jackson Library supports the learning and
research missions of the University through its
traditional and electronic resources and active outreach
programs. The position is a twelve-month,
tenure-track faculty position available July 1, 2004.
Demonstrated professional achievement, service,
and scholarly/creative activity are required for
reappointment and tenure. Standard state benefits
include state or optional (including TIAA/CREF) retirement
plans, health plan, and 24 vacation days a year. Our
190-acre campus is located one mile from the center of
Greensboro, a city of more than 229,000. The University is
located in the Piedmont Triad (population over 1 million),
an area of great natural beauty, diverse industry,
cultural arts and mild temperatures. UNCG is a
doctoral-granting, research-intensive institution with
