With the usual apologies for cross-posting:

On behalf of the ALA RUSA Resource Sharing Section Feasibility Task Force,
I am pleased to announce that it is official: at the ALA Midwinter
conference last January, the RUSA Board unanimously approved formation of a
new resource sharing section called STARS - Sharing and Transforming Access
to Resources Section. The section will officially be available for
membership effective September 1, 2004.

In the next couple of months, our task force will put together a slate of
candidates for the Executive Committee positions (chair,
vice-chair/chair-elect, secretary, and 3 members-at-large), and hold an
election at the RUSA MOUSS Interlibrary Loan Discussion Group meeting at
the 2004 Annual Conference in Orlando (exact time and date TBA). The
newly-elected Executive Committee will then appoint committee members and
section representatives to the RUSA division-level committees.

The Task Force is also in the process of putting together a STARS committee
volunteer form - we will post the URL as soon as it is ready, along with a
list of the committees to be formed this year.

The STARS section charge is available at:
http://www.ala.org/ala/rusa/rusaourassoc/rusasections/stars/rusastars.htm.

Our tentative Implementation Schedule, which includes a complete list of
all committees and discussion groups and the years in which they will be
formed, can be found at:
