The discussion list LibraryProcessing was started as a ListBot list in
April, 1999, by Lisa de Carbonel at the University of California, Law
Library. In August, 2001, she moved the list to majordomo@berkeley.edu
and renamed it library_processing. In October, 2003, the list was
suspended after a runaway auto-reply loop disabled the list, and the
listowner was simultaneously promoted out of her library's preservation
and processing unit. The list has now been reborn as LIBPROC-LIST at
LISTSERV@listserv.buffalo.edu , and ownership has been gratefully handed
over to Douglas Winship.

LIBPROC-LIST is a library list for discussion of the physical processing of
all library material; basically, Technical Services without the cataloging.

LIBPROC-LIST is a sublist of AUTOCAT Library cataloging and authorities
discussion list. AUTOCAT, despite the longer name, was originally
established by Nancy Keane at the U. of Vermont in late 1990 for all
Technical Services questions, not just cataloging. Items which initially
appear on AUTOCAT, and are appropriate to LIBPROC-LIST, will be echoed on
LIBPROC-LIST. Items which initially appear on LIBPROC-LIST, and are
appropriate to AUTOCAT, will be echoed on AUTOCAT.

If you wish to subscribe to LIBPROC-LIST, send the email message:
SUB LIBPROC-LIST Given-name Surname (please replace with YOUR name)
to: <LISTSERV@listserv.buffalo.edu>

That subscription command should be in the body, the text area, of your
email message, NOT in the Subject: field, which is ignored (leave that
blank unless your mail system will not accept Subjectless items). If you
have an automatic sig., please suppress it, if you can. If you wish to
subscribe, but have trouble doing so, please contact Douglas Winship, NOT
Lisa de Carbonel.

Please make sure that you send the subscription command to:
<LISTSERV@listserv.buffalo.edu>.

Feel free to forward this item, but NOT to lists which forbid interlist
forwarding.
