POSITION 1
Collection Management Librarian     (#401120)
Cataloging
Responsibilities:     Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU)
seeks an individual to serve as a member of the Cataloging Team to
carry out original and copy cataloging. Utilize national and local
standards for print and non-print formats, such as Internet
resources, electronic resources and journals; maintain the integrity
of the online catalog; work creatively and cooperatively to provide
innovative access and usability to enhance library programs and
services; monitor trends in metadata standards and provide
leadership in possible applications and implementation; assist in
creating goals and objectives, planning, and setting priorities.

This is a 12 month appointment with faculty rank and status. The
Cataloging Team consists of four full-time catalogers, one authority
work position, and three classified staff in the cataloging area. Other
members of the Team include the Serials Librarian and the Library
Specialist for Special Collections.

Qualifications:     Required:  ALA accredited Masters degree by hire
date; ability to work creatively and cooperatively in a team
environment to enhance library programs and services,
organizational and communication skills, knowledge of AACR2,
MARC, OCLC, and metadata standards such as XML, EAD, and
Dublin Core.
Preferred: Two years professional cataloging experience.

Commitment to excellence in teaching, research, publication and
service and ability to meet university promotion and tenure
requirements is expected for all positions.


POSITION 2
User Services Librarian      (#401510)
Circulation
Responsibilities:        Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) seeks
an energetic public services oriented individual to oversee the
management of the Circulation unit as a member of the Access
Services team in the User Services Department. Lead the
Circulation unit to provide high quality student and faculty centered
services in the areas of the circulation and reserves desks, and
stack maintenance.  Responsible for the supervision and hiring of
circulation staff, and oversight of a workforce which includes a
significant number of student workers.  Develop policies and
procedures to improve services.  Encourage a high quality service
environment through staff development and by modeling a customer
services orientation. Provide reference service including some
weekend and evening hours, teach general and subject specific
library instruction classes, and select resources in assigned subject
area(s) for reference collection.

This is a 12 month appointment with faculty rank and status.

Qualifications:     Required:  ALA accredited masters degree by hire
date and at least two years of library staff supervisory experience.
Knowledge of and/or experience with circulation. Ability to work
creatively and cooperatively in a team environment to enhance
library programs and services; work effectively with students,
faculty, and staff; manage a variety of responsibilities; quickly learn
new technology and skills.  Must also possess knowledge of print
and electronic reference resources, a strong service orientation,
excellent communication and organizational skills.

Desired:  Supervisory experience in a circulation unit including one
or more of the following:  reserves, electronic reserves, fine and fee
management, stack maintenance, and copyright issues. Experience
with the Endeavor Voyager system. Subject knowledge of business,
science, or legal resources.
