Project Gutenberg Requests Your Support
WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!
I've made this message intentionally short, details are on site.
If you'd like to put us on your holiday gift list, or to get a tax
deduction for your 2003 tax year, please find out how at gutenberg.net
10 years ago tonight, Project Gutenberg placed its 100th eBook online,
it was The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.
7 weeks ago, we did our 10,000th eBook, The Magna Carta, containing
several different editions in English, and the original Latin.
By the end of this year, only some 11 weeks after our 10,000th eBook. . .
we will have 11,000 Project Gutenberg eBooks online, as we start climbing
toward the goal of putting ONE MILLION eBooks online.
Our original goal was to reach 1.5% of the world = 100,000,000 readers.
Now that we have reached those goals. . .
Our current goal is to reach 15% of the world = 1,000,000,000 readers.
WE WANT TO GIVE AWAY ONE QUADRILLION eBOOKS BY 2015!!!!!!!
1 Million eBooks to 1 Billion readers = 1 Quadrillion eBooks
To accomplish these goals we will need your help!
It is one thing to attempt to reach 1-2% of the world population. . .
it is quite a different thing to reach 15%. . .a BILLION PEOPLE!!!
We will have to do several things:
1. Make eBooks available in more languages.
2. Let people around the world know they can get the books.
3. Make sure they are easily available.
YOUR HELP CAN REACH ALL THE WAY AROUND THE WORLD AND INTO THE FUTURE!
If you help us make just ONE BOOK, that book can already go to hundreds
of millions of people on the Internet, and more hundreds of millions on
computers off the Internet. We'd like to extend that to a billion. . .
and do it in the next decade.
You can find boxes of public domain books at library sales, garage sales,
bookstores, or being discarded. . .check them against our list and send
us the ones you think could be added to the eLibrary.
***
We need people interested in:
1. Machine Translation: to make books available in 100 languages.
2. Public Relations: to let people know these books are available.
3. Copyright Research: to include books with unrenewed copyrights.
4. Artists/Photographers: so we can include the great art work.
5. Musicians: so we can include the great music.
Please help us reach more readers. . .send us email addresses
for anyone you know in the media. . .if no email address then
web addresses. . .and street addresses so we can mail them a
copy of our DVD which contains all of our first 10,000 eBooks,
except for the Human Genome and audio books, due to large size,
and the Project Gutenberg of Australia eBooks, due to copyright.
You can find information on how to volunteer, donate books, and
make tax deductible contributions to the Project Gutenberg Literary
Archive Foundation at:
http://gutenberg.net
I'll send a follow up message about how to make donations,
as I have had numerous requests to repost that information
since our servers moved last month, and all the pages are
not yet redefined.
Thanks!!!
Nice To Hear From You!
I'm changing ISPs now,
so my replies may not
be as quick as usual.
If you don't get a reply
in two weeks, please resend.
