Press Release:

Announcing an exciting new venture using Web-based, interactive, voice
conferencing to provide hands-on know-how skills to make online
instructional content
more accessible for learners with disabilities. EASI, (Equal Access to
Software and Information), has long taught month-long online courses, but,
now, for those needing short clinics on specific skills EASI is launching a
series of synchronous 60-90-minute events which will combine a presentation
with the presenter explaining step-by-step procedures while displaying text
and graphic Web pages demonstrating what is described. Participants can
even minimize the conference window and follow the demonstration on their
own computer. Participants can also use voice or text chat to ask questions
of the presenter.

This Ivocalize Web conference system requires that participants run Windows
and use a recent version of Internet Explorer. They also need a sound card,
speakers and a mic.

During 2003-04 EASI is producing a series of free web conferences and also a
fee-based series of web conferences.

Free clinic:
September 25: Comparing Different Online Accessibility Checkers

The famous web accessibility checker, Bobby, used to be all there was, but
now theres competition.
Which is best?
How are they different?
How can I make sense of the report each produces?

We will look at Bobby, Cynthia Says and Wave. You can watch as we select
the settings to check and as we submit pages to be checked. Well walk, step
by step, through each report, explain what each means and see how it explains
what inaccessible features need to be repaired. Each checker has its fans;
it will be for your to decide which meets your needs best.

The presentation is scheduled for 1 PM Eastern, Noon Central, 11 AM Mountain
and 10 AM Pacific.

EASI Fee-based Web Conference Clinics:
EASI is producing a series of synchronous, interactive, online clinics that
focus on practical tools and tricks that enable content creators with
limited technical background to produce materials that are fully accessible
to people with disabilities. Content designers want to be free too
concentrate on providing a clear communication that can be readily
understood without getting bogged down in technical accessibility details.
These presentations rely primarily
on tools already familiar to content designers. Any new applications that
are selected for demonstration will have user-friendly interfaces.
