Periodicals Librarian
Dick Smith Library
Tarleton State University
Tarleton State University, a regional university of 8,400 students
located in Stephenville, Texas, is one-hour southwest of Ft. Worth. A
member of The Texas A&M University System, Tarleton is committed to
academic excellence. The library is seeking a motivated, energetic,
service oriented individual to serve on Technical Services team.
Under the supervision of Division Head for Technical Services, the
Periodicals Librarian manages all operations of periodicals department,
which includes acquisition and maintenance of serials in all formats,
supervision of staff, and in-building circulation. Manages electronic
journals and full-text holdings and assists in the planning and
implementation of policies, procedures, and new technologies.
Participates in rotation schedule for weekend reference desk coverage.
Education Required: MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited
library school. Preferred: 2nd Masters Degree
Experience Required: Must have working knowledge of periodicals, OCLC or
a similar bibliographic network; SIRSI or similar library automated
system, and serials cataloging. Preferred: Supervisory experience.
Skills: Knowledge of process and trends in electronic journals and
databases. Must demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills;
effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; and
ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must be
attentive to details and able to solve problems.
Twelve-month appointment with minimum salary of $30,000, depending upon
qualifications. Benefits include choice of group medical and retirement
