Position 1:
Reference and Social Sciences Librarian
Mary Washington College seeks an experienced, motivated librarian to work as a
member of its instructional team, reporting to the Library Director. Responsibilities
include service at the reference desk, instruction and collection development / liaison
work with the College's social sciences departments. Responsibilities will also include
creating and maintaining informational and instructional Web pages and participation
in information literacy initiatives. The position also includes reference desk service
with occasional weekend and evening hours.
Required qualifications:
ALA-accredited MLS. A minimum of two (2) years reference and library instruction
experience in an academic library is required. Demonstrated experience creating and
maintaining Web pages in support of library services. Knowledge of and experience
with a wide array of traditional and electronic information resources. A demonstrated
ability of working independently and in a team environment; strong organizational,
interpersonal, instructional, oral and written communications skills are required.
Environment:
Mary Washington College is a state-assisted, coed, liberal arts college with an
enrollment of 4,000 students. The college is located in historic Fredericksburg,
Virginia, 50 miles south of Washington, DC and 50 miles north of Richmond, Virginia.

Salary / Benefits:
Salary: $36,000 - $39,000; 12-month administrative faculty appointment; state
government benefit package; choice of retirement plan including TIAA/CREF; medical
benefits; professional development support; 15 vacation days in addition to state
holidays.

Position 2:
Off-site Library Manager

Responsibilities: provide library services at Mary Washington College's three year old
James Monroe Center for Graduate and Professional Studies. Campus is seven miles
from sponsoring campus. The Center offers the MBA and M.Ed in addition to a wide
array of certification programs. This is a professional position for an innovative,
outgoing, and energetic librarian. Librarian is responsible for all operations of the
Center's library. Incumbent will develop and provide innovative bibliographic and
information literacy instruction for a community of non-traditional students employing a
wide variety of methods. Off-site library manager provides reference assistance, library
user instruction, collection development, circulation and interlibrary loan services.
Manages a staff of two part time classified employees. Incumbent will collaborate with

Required qualifications: ALA accredited MLS degree. Candidates will exhibit evidence
of a commitment to excellence, as well as substantial professional experience including
reference and information literacy instruction, searching electronic databases, collection
development and supervision. Knowledge of copyright in an electronic environment is
expected. Incumbent must be willing to work a schedule that includes early evening and
occasional weekend hours. Preferred qualifications: Experience working with adult
learners, and computer skills including HTML and Web design are preferred.
Mary Washington College is a publicly supported liberal arts college located in the

Richmond. Salary: $39,000 to $42,000 dependent on experience. Mary Washington
