POSITION: Information Systems Administrator
LOCATION: McConnell Library, Radford University - Radford, VA
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in the planning, development,
implementation, and maintenance of a robust information technology platform
supporting the Library’s mission. Manage servers, scripts, dynamic
websites, and interactive applications. Assist with workstation management.
Twelve-month non-tenured professional faculty position, which includes
responsibilities for university and professional contributions.
McConnell Library Information Technology supports services such as: an
online catalog, electronic reserves, electronic ILL and Document Delivery
(ILLiad), access to thousands of electronic resources including those
provided through VIVA membership, authenticated remote access to
subscription resources, wireless network access, equipment checkout
(laptops, data projectors, digital cameras and DV cameras etc.), and a
Multimedia Center. The Library uses the following technology: Dell
PowerEdge and Sun servers, Dell and Gateway computers, Innovative
Interfaces INNOPAC/Millennium, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL 2000,
ColdFusion MX, Dreamweaver MX and UltraDev, Apache Web Server, EZProxy,
ILLiad, Ariel, Altiris Rapid Deploy and Vision, WebTrends, MS Office, and
most Adobe and Macromedia products.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Management experience in an IT setting;
experience supporting networked IT; computer programming, HTML,
IIS/Windows2000 and UNIX platforms; excellent planning and project
management skills; superior organizational, analytical, troubleshooting and
communication skills; data management skills. Master’s degree from an ALA-
accredited program or Master’s degree in a relevant subject area such as
Information Science or Computer Science, expected by the time of
appointment.
Preferred: Experience in academic libraries; experience with the management
of integrated systems (preferably Innovative Interfaces, Inc.); experience
with Z39.50, MARC, XML, Dublin-Core/Metadata, ASP, PERL, JAVA, EXPECT,
JavaScript, CFM, SQL, DHTML, CSS, CGI.
