I would be very grateful if you would send me any replies you receive
to your request for the Bibliotheque Nationale's telnet address.
So far as I know -- and I've been looking for some time -- the BN does
not have telnet access. Their GEAC opac -- which is excellent, by the
way -- was available for X.25, e.g. conventional telephone, dial-in for
a short time in June, but they ran into some difficulties and this was
disconnected. I was told last month that X.25 might be available again
by the first of the year. For telnet they would need an Internet node
and tcp/ip protocols, both of which are available in Paris, but neither
of which is likely to be implemented aytime soon at the BN, I should
think, for reasons both strategic and political. But all of this may be
false or, more likely I hope, out of date, so if you hear otherwise I
wish you'd let me know.
