Assuming a decent proxy server, both hardware and software, and a
decent connection to the server, you'll never notice the difference.
When you think of all the other places that you can have lags and
bottlenecks, the chances that the proxy server will be the weak link
are very small.

You should most definitely consider EZProxy, as it requires nothing
from your users but a login, and is easy for you to implement.
