Responding to Change in Reference Services
Please join the ACRL College Library Section’s Medium-Sized Academic
Libraries Discussion Group at ALA in Atlanta as we discuss Responding to
Change in Reference Services. The meeting will take place from 9:30-11
am on Monday, June 17 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel in the
Chardonnay Room.
We plan to discuss nationwide trends of dwindling reference
transactions, as well as the explosion of demands for information
literacy instruction, growing demands from management to promote and
develop reference services and new standards from accrediting bodies for
more effective assessment of libraries and their constituents.
What is your library doing in response to these trends? Share your
successes and failures. Learn what other libraries are doing to provide
proactive reference services.
Come and share your concerns, issues, experience, and learn what others
are doing with assessment, marketing library services, expanding,
retrenching, and redirecting their professional efforts in this changing
work world.
