Subject: Manuscript Manager
Does anyone on the list have some information they could share about a word
processing software program called Manuscript Manager, expecially using the APA
style? Our copy of the program isn't working and we don't have a backup. MM
was produced by Pergamon Press, which is a Maxwell owned company. Since
Maxwell is dead and his family business is such disarray the company is no help
to us at all.
If you know where a copy may still be available (bookstore, computer store,
etc.) would you please let us know. We've made every effort to contact
Pergamon to resolve this problem, but they have effectively withdrawn all
software support.
Responses should not be to the list, since they will probably not be of
interest to general subscribers.

Could someone tell me if there is such a thing as software that will
close a pc's connection after a period of inactivity? I know that some
databases that one calls up will do this. I am not very good at reading
manuals for telecommunications software so I don't know if the packages
that I have will shut off a connection from the pc's end.
The reason that I ask is that we have a public access pc which dials up
a local university's OPAC. We just received a phone bill that had a
5 hour call to that number. The OPAC will not break the connection from
that end so I would like to do something to avoid large phone bills and
also not abuse the phone access to the university's OPAC.

Subject: OPAC software
Could someone recommend an inexpensive, IBM-based (or compatible)
software package for an OPAC. A department on our campus would like
to input their departmental collection into a database. They would
like to be able to search by author, title, subject, call number, and
keyword. I doubt they will have a cataloger. They are not interested
in full cataloging, serials control, circulation etc. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. Thank you.
