        ISMIR 2002 - 3rd International Conference
              on Music Information Retrieval

                   October 13-17, 2002
Ircam - Centre Pompidou, Paris, France

               http://ismir2002.ircam.fr/

The annual ISMIR Conference is the first established international forum
for those involved in the tremendous growth of music-related contents
available digitally, locally or remotely, through networks, and who need
to organize and structure, provide tools to search and retrieve, and use
them efficiently.

All of these concerns are of interest to education, academia,
entertainment and industry. This conference thus aims at providing a
place for the exchange of news, issues and results, by bringing together
researchers and developers, educators and librarians, students and
professional users, working in fields that may contribute significantly
to this multidisciplinary domain, by presenting original theoretical or
practical work in peer-reviewed contributions (papers, posters), serve
as a discussion forum (panels), provide in-depth information in specific
domains (tutorials) and show current products (exhibit).

The conference will be held under the honorary presidence of composer
and conductor Pierre Boulez, and will feature the following invited and
keynote speakers:

- Leonardo Chiariglione, Vice President, Multimedia of Telecom Italia
Lab and Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) chair
- Dave Datta, Vice-President Technology, AllMusic Guide
- Harriette Hemmasi, Associate Dean of the Libraries and Director of
Technical Services, Indiana University. Project Investigator, Digital
Music Library Project, Indiana University.
- Eric Scheirer, media technology researcher and consultant, formerly of
Forrester Research and the MIT Media Lab
- Ted Tanner Jr., Audio-Video Architecture Strategist, Microsoft
Corporation
(this is a partial list).

Registration has started for the conference through its Web site (see
above). Since there is a limited number of seats available both for the
(optional) tutorials and the main conference, please register early.

Registration for accommodations will open in a few days, information is
already available on pricing and locations. Please book early, Paris is
highly in demand at that period and the pricing is good.

Other important dates:

4/19/2002 - Paper and poster submission deadline
7/1/2002 - Author notification
7/15/2002 - Registration deadline I
8/16/2002 - Camera-ready submissions due
9/30/2002 - Application for exhibit space deadline

Hoping to see you at ISMIR 2002,

Michael Fingerhut
General Chair, ISMIR 2002
