The Arizona Health Sciences Library (AHSL) is seeking a Head of Systems
and Networking (Assistant or Associate Librarian) to provide leadership
and vision to a team of talented experts and librarians committed to
exploiting technology to deliver excellent service. Responsible for the
overall direction, administration and management of AHSL computer
resources, systems, and networking. Serves as Technical Liaison for
the Arizona Health Information Network, Inc. (AZHIN). Reports to the
director. Supervises a dept. of 4.5 FTE.
Duties and Responsibilities: Provides leadership in technology
projects; Manages and supervises staff to provide high quality service
to AHSL, the Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) and AZHIN; Planning,
development, implementation, integration, and support of all computing
resources, systems, and networking within AHSL and for AZHIN;
Development and support of computer applications for library staff and
AZHIN members; Oversight and coordination of the ongoing development of
the library's Web site and integrated library system; Provision of
assistance to end users connecting to library systems; Collaboration
with AHSC, main campus library and university departments, University
Medical Center (UMC), AZHIN, and others, locally or statewide, in the
planning and design of projects related to the delivery of networked
health information and educational resources; Awareness of trends and
evaluation of new technology, and new methods of delivering health
information; Contributing to overall AHSL management through
participation in the AHSL Department Heads group.
Minimum Qualifications: MLS or Master's degree in MIS or other relevant
graduate professional degree; three years work in library systems and
networking operations in a complex environment; supervisory experience,
preferably at the administrative level.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of integrated library systems and
current networking technologies; Demonstrated ability to guide Web site
development from a functional and technical perspective; Demonstrated
initiative and ability to lead; Excellent analytical, troubleshooting
and problem-solving skills; Ability to identify important trends and
developments in the area of technology and to determine which are
significant to the library and its environment
Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communications skills;
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary
teams throughout the health sciences community; Demonstrated commitment
to working collegially; Planning, grant writing, and project management
skills; Record of involvement in professional associations and/or
evidence of publications or presentations.
Appointment and Salary: This position is a full-time, twelve-month,
continuing-eligible appointment with faculty status and academic rank.
Retention and promotion are dependent on a successful record of
accomplishment in the areas of position effectiveness, scholarly
accomplishment, and service. Minimum salary: $55,000, commensurate
with background, credentials, and qualifications. Excellent benefits

AHSL is part of the University of Arizona and supports programs in
medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, health professions, and the
University Medical Center, as well as statewide outreach. Systems staff
are active in designing and implementing the technical infrastructure
for AHSL's digital library; currently lead an innovative initiative to
develop an integrated, user-focused, XML-based approach to both
electronic and traditional library resources; and (because the Library
hosts the AHSC web site), are involved in the initiation of new
web-based services for the entire health sciences center faculty and
students.
As the largest academic health sciences library in Arizona, AHSL has a
well-established program of outreach services to health care providers
and hospitals statewide. AHSL is a founding member of the Arizona
Health Information Network (AZHIN), a consortium of health care
institutions committed to providing a framework for knowledge-based
information statewide. Our resources include a staff of 50+ including 18
professionals, a collection of 220,000 volumes, 2,000+ current journal
subscriptions, and a large audiovisual and software collection.
