Hold your horses; it's coming! I know how frustrating it is, and part
of what I teach people is how to get "off" the system, when your pc is
frozen. No, re-booting won't help.
The new standard is NISO, and will allow all these systems to speak
the same lingo. But, imagine: I have a pc, connected to a VAX, and our
library, using ls/2000, is on still another make of computer. You have
a Mac, connected to an IBM, and your library uses DRA....
When you think about it, it is amazing that it works as well as it does.
Yes, there are problems. But it is like the message I saw about 6 months
ago. Something to the effect: was my library school education defective;
I graduated in 1987 and knew nothing about the internet.
Nope, there wasn't much internet then. Yep, you purists will flame me and
say it has been around awhile, but NOTHING like today (just wait until NREN).
