The NCSU Libraries Fellows program offers a unique opportunity to a
select group of MLS and MIS graduates who have received degrees December
2001 or later. The NCSU Libraries is particularly well known for its
digital library programs, its technological advances, and its commitment
to defining the future of librarianship. The NCSU Libraries offers
Fellows the opportunity for rapid professional growth through assignment
to an innovative project combined with experience and mentoring in a
department. Project assignments allow you to work closely with
librarians and information technology professionals from various

Qualifications: The Libraries seeks a diverse pool of applicants with
ALA-accredited MLS or MIS degrees received December 2001 or later.
Required: demonstrated potential to develop expertise in information
technology, digital library initiatives, and/or science librarianship.
Evidence of leadership potential; excellent interpersonal skills,
including ability to work in a highly interactive team environment;
ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally
and in writing; understanding of the educational mission of a research
university. Internship or practicum in research-oriented environment is
desirable. Salary is $39,000 annually plus full benefits package, $2,500
professional development stipend, and relocation allowance . Fellows
will be appointed to the rank of Librarian for a two-year term beginning
July 2002.

Assistant Head, Collection Management.
Shares management of a department that leads in building collections of
electronic resources, that is among the top 25 ARL libraries in the
growth of its print collection, that maximizes licensing terms for the
benefit of faculty and students, that is actively engaged in scholarly
communication issues, and that emphasizes outreach to faculty and
graduate students. Supervises three librarians and one staff. Manages
planning, policy development, budgeting, and evaluation of library
collections. Performs collection management in subject specialty areas
and takes a leadership role in the relevant subject team. Develops and
maintains client-focused relationships with deans, academic department
heads, faculty, and students.
Qualifications Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Minimum three years'
collection management experience in an academic library. Academic
background or experience in science or engineering. Evidence of
effective collaboration with faculty, colleagues, and students.
Knowledge of applications of current and emerging technologies. Deep
understanding of scholarly communication and issues of ownership and
access. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly,
knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing. Ability to work
independently and in a team environment. Ability to set priorities
effectively and resolve competing demands in an atmosphere of fast-paced
change. Demonstrated record of contributions to the field. Preferred:
Five years' professional library experience. Research library
experience. Experience in the management of collection budgets.
Supervisory experience. Salary: competitive and commensurate with
experience, not less than $47,500 with required qualifications or
$52,500 with preferred qualifications

Staff Development and Diversity Librarian
The Staff Development and Diversity Librarian plans and implements a
comprehensive program of continuous learning, training, and development
for library staff, including supervisory training. Assesses needs and
interests; recommends programs; provides training; coordinates employee
orientation. Plans and implements programs to encourage a climate where
a diverse staff and user population feel welcomed, valued, and
respected. Develops outreach efforts to attract people from diverse
backgrounds to the profession. Conducts analytical and statistical
studies to evaluate effectiveness of programs. Identifies and pursues
opportunities for external resources to support. Serves as ex-officio
member of, and provides guidance to, the Libraries Staff Learning and
Development Committee and the Libraries Diversity Committee. Represents
the Libraries in campus, regional, and national diversity efforts.
Participates in planning, serves on library-wide committees, task
forces, and teams, and is expected to be active professionally.
Qualifications Required: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced
degree. Minimum two years’ relevant experience planning and delivering
training programs. Demonstrated commitment and ability to plan and lead
diversity initiatives. Experience coordinating the work of others.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly,
knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing, and to make
effective presentations. Preferred: ALA-accredited MLS. Supervisory
experience. Demonstrated knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies
related to employment, discrimination, and affirmative action. Previous
experience in minority recruitment /diversity program. At least two
years experience in an academic or research library. Competitive salary
commensurate with experience, not less than $38,000 for this position
with required qualifications, or $42,000 with preferred qualifications.
Academic status without tenure or rank. State health insurance; State,
TIAA/ CREF, VALIC or other retirement options. 24 vacation days.
Relocation allowance.
