There is no question that someone has to pay for the browser.
However, IE and NS are NOT Adware. Opera has done the same as the
makers of Eudora and other excellent pieces of software; they've
provided an Adware version and a Paid version. You pay your money (or
don't) and take your choice. But, Microsoft doesn't need to do that,
as IE is part of Windows. They do let you upgrade the browser at no
added cost. Netscape also is available free. They tried the paid
route years ago and dropped it. As far as the funding of NS goes,
I'll leave that to others. But, being part of the AOL empire, I'm
guessing that they're hoping you'll come over to that service. Both
browsers do default you to their company's services, home page, and so
forth, but that doesn't constitute advertising as far as I'm
concerned.
