North Carolina State University Libraries
Four Positions

HEAD, ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT

Responsibilities: Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and manages the
Libraries’ acquisitions programs in a bimodal and rapidly changing
environment of print and digital library resources.  Resolves
acquisitions problems and applies knowledge of current issues and trends
in scholarly communication and the publishing industry to improve
services.  Plays key role in budgeting and monitoring expenditures.
Develops and analyzes statistical and management reports for the
Libraries.  Establishes and maintains business relationships with
vendors and assesses vendor performance.  When appropriate, partners
with vendors to improve products and services.  Collaborates with
colleagues in Collection Management, Distance Learning Services, Finance
and Business, Systems, and Cataloging to manage contracts and licenses,
to assure access to collection resources, and to improve workflow
processes.  Works with counterparts in the Triangle Research Libraries
Network (TRLN) to further historically strong cooperative programs.
Participates in library-wide planning activities and serves as a member
of the Libraries’ Management Council.  Librarians at NCSU Libraries are
expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments
in the field.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS.  Minimum three to five
years of relevant professional experience in an academic library.
Demonstrated management, supervisory, and leadership skills.  Evidence
of ability to interact collaboratively. Evidence of strong service
orientation.  Knowledge of scholarly communication and publishing
trends.  Knowledge of MARC formats and experience with library automated
systems. Competence in financial and data management. Excellent
interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and
personably, orally and in writing.  Demonstrated record of professional
contributions.  Preferred:  Research university library experience.

Salary: The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with
experience, not less than $60,000 for this position

SERIALS LIBRARIAN: Entry level

Responsibilities: Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and manages the
Libraries’ serials acquisitions programs in a bimodal environment of
print and digital library resources. The Libraries acquires and
processes all serials centrally with record maintenance on the DRA
online system. Supervises 6 staff members. Contributes to the overall
management of the department. Develops and analyzes statistical and
management reports for the department and the Libraries. Formulates
strategic plans for an increasingly digital serials environment.
Collaborates with colleagues in Collection Management, Distance Learning
Services, Systems, and Cataloging to facilitate the licensing of digital
resources, to coordinate the tracking of digital resources, and to
ensure effective access to all serials resources. Works with
counterparts in the Triangle Research Libraries Network (TRLN) to
further historically strong cooperative programs. Serves on library-wide
committees, task forces, and teams. Librarians at NCSU Libraries are
expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments
in the field. Reports to the Head of Acquisitions.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Demonstrated knowledge of
the serials industry, serials publishing trends, and contracts and
licensing issues.  Excellent oral, written, analytical, and
interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to work independently and
in teams. Preferred: Experience with serials in an academic library
collection.  Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred.

Salary: The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with
experience, not less than $35,000 for this position.

COLLECTION MANAGER FOR THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AND DATA ANALYSIS: Entry
Level

Responsibilities: Develops and manages the social sciences collection.
Develops and maintains client-focused relationships with faculty,
researchers, and students to determine collection needs and priorities.
Serves on the Humanities and Social Sciences Subject Team.  Maintains
and analyzes collections data for the department and the Libraries.
Prepares collections planning documents and data for accreditation
reviews, questionnaires, statistical surveys, and inventory projects.
Generates regular and on-demand statistical reports as defined by
departmental and library goals.  Works closely with colleagues in
Scholarly Communication and External Relations, Acquisitions, and
Cataloging. Works with counterparts in the Triangle Research Libraries
Network (TRLN) to further historically strong cooperative collection
development programs. Serves on library-wide committees, task forces,
and teams.  Librarians at NCSU Libraries are expected to be active
professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.  Reports
to the Collection Manager for the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS;  academic  background  in
the social sciences; experience in data analysis and statistics;
familiarity with standard data analysis tools; excellent interpersonal
skills, including ability to work with faculty, researchers, and
students, and ability to work in a highly interactive team environment;
ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally
and in writing; understanding of the educational mission of a research
university.  Preferred:  Collection management coursework or experience;
advanced degree in the social sciences.

Salary: The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with
experience, not less than $34,000 for this position.

COLLECTION MANAGER FOR THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Responsibilities: Provides leadership for humanities and social sciences
collection development and management.  Performs as primary selector of
humanities materials and supervises the selection of social sciences
materials in all formats. Manages the planning, policy development,
funding, evaluation, and use of library collections in these subject
areas.  Develops and maintains client-focused relationships with faculty
and students to determine collection needs and priorities.  Is a member
of the Humanities and Social Sciences Subject Team.  Supervises the work
of one librarian and a collection development fellow.  Serves as the
departmental coordinator for the Libraries’ gifts program, working
closely with donors and Special Collections.  Works with counterparts in
the Triangle Research Libraries Network (TRLN) to further historically
strong cooperative collection development programs.  Serves on
library-wide committees, task forces, and teams.  Librarians at NCSU
Libraries are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to
developments in the field. Reports to the Head of Collection Management.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS.  Academic background in
humanities or social sciences.  Minimum three years’ experience with
humanities and social sciences literature and resources.  Familiarity
with major collection development issues.  Evidence of effective
collaboration with faculty and students.  Knowledge of applications of
current and emerging technologies as they meet the needs of library
clients.  Understanding of scholarly communication and issues of
ownership and access. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to
communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in
writing.  Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to set priorities effectively and resolve competing demands in
an atmosphere of fast-paced change.  Preferred:  Advanced degree in
humanities or social sciences discipline.  Minimum three years’
collection development experience in an academic library.

Salary: The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with
experience, not less than $38,000 for this position.
