ASIST Annual Meeting
November 3-8, 2001

The Annual Meeting program is now available online at http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM01/index.html
Internet infrastructure pioneer Brewster Kahle, inventor of WAIS (Wide Area Information
Server) system, and founder of Thinking Machines, the Internet Archives, and
Alexa will be the keynote speaker opening the meeting on Sunday afternoon, November
4.
A debate on the Semantic Web between Ben Schneiderman and James Hendler will
be featured in a second plenary session closing the meeting on Thursday morning,
November 8.
In between we will have 65 sessions beginning on Sunday afternoon through Thursday
morning. The extensive program also includes 38 Special Interest Group (SIG)
sessions, nine invited panels, 48 refereed papers in 16 sessions, 34 posters,
and seven receptions. Topics include: Bibliometrics, Bioinformatics, Cataloging,
Categorization, Classification, Indexing, Data mining, Digital libraries, Education,
e-Learning, Globalization, Imaging & visualization, Information architecture,
Information policy, Information retrieval, information science theory & history,
Interface design, Knowledge management, Portals, Privacy, Technologies, Usability,
and User studies.
Unusual for ASIST, on Monday and Tuesday at Noon we will have Poster Sessions,
an excellent opportunity to hear and see exciting new research findings, promising
ongoing work, and projects that are in their infancy and open to being influenced
by questions and discussion.
Pre-Conference Seminars and Workshops: Content Management Framework; Information
Architecture and Organization Strategy; Content Management Strategies and Tools;
Data Mining; Practical Statistics for Information professions; Intranet Taxonomies
and Metadata; Content Personalization; Classification Research Workshop, Information

We will be digitally recording all of the speakers who consent. Full conference
registrants will have their choice of: a CD ROM set of the 2001 Annual Meeting
or electronic access to both the 2000 and 2001 Annual Meetings.
