Your "quick scan" is consistent with the information that has been sent to
me directly by other list-serve members.
The next question begs to be answered: If 60% of currently serving
librarians are to retire in the next 10 years as we are being told in our
classes, what might the ALA do to facilitate an infusion of new blood in the
profession? Are libraries and their patrons better off because the guiding
body restricts entrance through mainly large, state university, programs? I
don't want to cheapen the profession, just see it fully and properly
staffed.
